The Canal Grande
Starlight scintillates in the sky. The lanterns hung on the gondolas flicker over the water, ephemeral fireflies, elusive hauntings from a dream. Along the banks stand shadowy, fragile fantasies of past glory and power. The stately, restrained Palazzo Grassi faces the time-blackened columns and arches of the Ca' Rezzonico, the Ca' where the Foscari Doge died of a broken heart, the Palazzo Balbi with its corner balconies receding into darkness, the Gothic Palazzo Bernardo, once residence of a Sforza duke. The dark windows seem intent upon you, and cupids hover in the shadows of the carved acanthus leaves, watching you with secret purpose.
leaky Gondola and wisteria gondola are here.
