Calle Della Notte
The Street of Night is caressed by long boneless fingers of mist. At each end of the calle, languid willows overhang the dark waters of the Rio Flusso del Sangue. Edging the calle, rich palazzos are sequestered behind walls of russet brick, of grey Istrian stone, of varigated marble. Openwork fences of coiling wrought iron drenched in dark ivy offer fragmentary glimpses of rapturous beauty. Luxuriant, intimate, the private gardens of Venice offer a wilderness of temptation, the lush scent of the flowers perfuming the obscuring mists.
