Lucerne-Nice-Upper Lake

Enjoying the view of the lake all along the highway, you pass through Lucerne, named after its counterpart in Switzerland, and Nice, named after its sister city in France. Finally, you turn off Highway 20 in the middle of farm and ranchland and find yourself on the delightful Main Street of Upper Lake. Step lightly along the boardwalk and revel in the stores, small though each may be: Family and Community Network, The Gutierrez Art Gallery, Gracious Ladies (should be Gracious Ladies and Gents...full of hand made stuff that is amazing and unique. Much much more; too much to try to describe here.

Roads out of town include one to Lakeport, from which you can stop and see an annual Passion Play at the old Beltramo Ranch in late May, one north to Highway 101 (via Potter and Redwood Valleys), and one up into the forest, where after following the winding dirt road for miles, you can trout fish to your heart's content at Lake Pillsbury.
