Ocean Beach

Winds gust and blow over the icy grey waters of the Pacific Ocean as it breaks against the long sandy shore of the westernmost part of San Francisco. North of here, it rushes swiftly into the great bay, under the Golden Gate Bridge. Curving to the northwest are the bold Marin County headlands, tawny and green. South, the beach disappears into the ever-present fog as it streams in tattered majesty towards the warmth of the interior. The only visible lights are from the houses on the other side of Highway 1, and the steady yellow beam from the lighthouse across the bay mouth. The muted roar of the ocean is infinitely soothing.
