Grotto

Behind the waterfall is a grotto-like chamber. It is a naturally formed room whose gray stone walls round upwards into a low arched ceiling. Here too, the heat from the underground spring creates a most comforting enveloping warmth. The entire floor of this room is covered by an immense oriental rug -- a bokara pattern whose background is the liquid color of red wine. Nestled in the corner of the grotto is a large platform bed covered with a sumptuous futon-like comforter. It is easilly a foot thick and has the appearance of an eggshell colored cloud. The other furnishings, located across the room, are a narrow adjustable armless chaise upholstered in the most supple black leather imaginable, a matching black leather armchair and ottoman, and an antique Korean wooden chest containing many different size draws and weathered brass hardware. The room is barely illuminated by candles held in time worn sconces and from a cenral hanging chandelier whose original brass has now been transformed to verdigris.
