Rialto Bridge
Essentially unchanged since its Renaissance construction, the oldest of the bridges on the Canal Grande was once the site of much of the commerce of the powerful Venetian city-state. Now, in the gathering twilight, it stands deserted, the quiet broken by the lapping of the waves in the canal below and the occasional gust of wind carrying the songs of gondoliers and indistint shreads of conversation.
